1. From the CEO

Irrigation Australia has recently been working with some external advice on a strategy to grow and retain members. We want to ensure members and other stakeholders have access to the networks and skills they need for their essential roles supporting the adoption of efficient and productive irrigation practices across Australia’s food and fibre markets, leisure activity spaces and commercial activities, to ensure the best use of our most precious resource.

You will see a lot more soon as we work through and implement that plan, but for now I thought I’d share a few of the key messages developed. They are the sorts of things that inspire out people to keep plugging away in challenging circumstances.

A New Vision

To build a thriving irrigation industry by empowering its people through knowledge, innovation, and sustainable practice; and

A Manifesto

For those who move water, we move the industry.

We believe in the power of water. Not just to grow crops or green cities - but to drive innovation, build resilient communities, and secure Australia’s future.

At Irrigation Australia, we stand with those who rise before the sun.

The designers, technicians, growers, and contractors who make every drop count.

We are here for the doers - the ones who see the work ahead and step up to lead. The ones who seek mastery, not mediocrity.

The ones who know that skill, knowledge, and certification are not extras - they are essentials.

That’s why we deliver world-class training, on-demand learning, and recognised certification - because professionals deserve the tools to succeed.

And the industry needs leaders who are prepared.

We champion excellence, set the standard, and create a powerful network of experts across agriculture, urban infrastructure, and beyond.

This isn’t just about irrigation. It's about leadership, purpose, and being the expert the industry needs.

So, if you’re ready to rise - to master irrigation, and to shape the future - Join us!

It’s a great time to join - check out our sign-up page here if these messages resonate with you, or reach out to me directly if you’re keen to discuss other options.

2. Last chance to train before EOFY - Final intakes filling fast!

Time is running out to secure your place in Irrigation Australia’s final training courses for this financial year! With limited spots available in our May and June intakes, now is the time to take action and hit your professional development goals before 30 June.

Whether you're sharpening your skills or stepping up in your irrigation career, we’ve got a course to help you get you there! View all upcoming training courses here.

New training format unlocks more flexibility and opportunity

We've recently implemented some changes to the way we deliver training to help meet minimum numbers and reduce the risk of cancellations/postponements. This means, in some instances, delivering short courses alongside the Certificate III in Irrigation Technology. The benefits? You'll have the opportunity to train alongside others from across the industry - gaining insights, sharing experiences, and building valuable professional networks.

Delivered by qualified trainers and industry experts, these practical, hands-on courses are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed - whether you're starting out, looking to grow, or aiming to stay ahead in a growing and essential industry.

The cost-effective Irrigation Installer short course includes 6 units to give you a fantastic set of practical skills delivered over 4 days, and a taste of the full trade-equivalent Certificate III qualification.

The Electrofusion & Butt Welding short course is delivered over 2 days face-to-face in the final block of training for the Certificate III. It’s designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to weld polyethylene pipes using both electrofusion and butt welding techniques - a valuable skillset to have.

Upcoming courses:

May

June

You may be eligible for funding!

Irrigation Australia has a variety of funding and subsidies available in QLD, NSW, SA, and WA for the Certificate III in Irrigation Technology (AHC32424)! Click here to find out more and to see if you are eligible. If you have any questions, please email training@irrigation.org.au

Please note where we have available funding, many states are in the process of negotiating contracts and pricing changes for the new financial year so this could be the last opportunity in some instances.

8. To all Irrigation Industry and Rainwater Harvesting Industry stakeholders

Rainwater Harvesting Australia has been operating as a Division of Irrigation Australia since 2017. Following a significant review in 2024, members of the Committee elected to establish the Rainwater Harvesting Association as an independent industry association.

The Committee believes that the time is right now to form an independent association with dedicated professional support, to focus on growing the rainwater harvesting sector, advocating for better regulation and policy, and supporting its members in a more specialised way.  The change is fully supported by Irrigation Australia and both organisations intend to work through a smooth transition by 30 June 2025, looking forward to future collaborative opportunities.

For further information, feel free to reach out to Jackie Hammond (jackie@bmco.com.au) or Dave Cameron (dave.cameron@irrigation.org.au).
